- Pippa Small"When my partner in Kabul told me of their dream to see 100 women trained in jewellery making, literacy, basic business skills and English over the course of a year, I instantly wanted to help make this dream come true."
PIPPA SMALL FOR AFGHANISTAN’S ETHICAL AND HUMANITARIAN AQUAMARINE NECKLACE HAS ARRIVED AT WHITEBIRD. ETHICAL JEWELLER PIPPA SMALL HAS BEEN WORKING WITH ARTISANS IN KABUL SINCE 2008 AND HAS CREATED DOZENS OF COLLECTIONS. WHEN PIPPA’S PARTNER IN KABUL TOLD HER OF THEIR DREAM TO SEE 100 WOMEN TRAINED IN JEWELLERY MAKING, LITERACY, BASIC BUSINESS SKILLS AND ENGLISH OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR, PIPPA INSTANTLY WANTED TO HELP MAKE THIS DREAM COME TRUE.
Pippa’s partner and his colleagues in Kabul have set up a safe space for women from disadvantaged communities of internally displaced refugees who have been living in parks and camps for the last 9 months. They will have transport to the workshop where they will receive training from women only teachers from a charity foundation. There will be hot meals provided and the chance for the women to learn, creating new skills, gain confidence and empowerment and the opportunity for a new life with some financial independence and hope.
Pippa has created a special aquamarine necklace, of which 100% of the profits are supporting this project to pay for transport, food, material and teachers. Aquamarine is found in Nuristan in the north-east of the country, and rough crystals of the beautiful blue gem have been set in gold vermeil and strung on a gold coloured cord to create a personal amulet. The necklaces produced by Pippa's local partners in Kabul will give hope to so many in Afghanistan and support this incredible project.
This wonderful adventure has come to fruition thanks to Pippa's involvement in this remarkable project.
