DAY 1
After a 14-hour flight, I land in Tokyo at dawn and continue my journey to Okayama. The weather is heavy, but the light is already blinding, dressing the buildings in white and saturating the colors of the city. I'm here to work but feel immediately at home , the kindness of people and their smiles relax me.
DAY 2
Jet lag engulfs me , I quickly drift into sleep and wake up to a pastel coloured dawn, a real life Monet staring at me. I manage to do some yoga and head off to join my group and explore the city.
DAY 3
The next day, we head off to catch a ferry and cross over to these magical islands located in the Seto Inland Sea, where I have come back a second time. This particular timeless enclave of nature and architecture is an open-air art gallery. The locals who live here quietly mingle with the tourists who explore it on a bike .
DAY 4
On the fourth day, I set off for Awaji to explore a circular underground shrine with a pond that invites us to contemplation. A gentle breeze blows across the omikuji the fortune paper slips. Further down, an old man seated on a periwinkle-blue bench gazes into the distance. Nature is everywhere , enveloping and protective.
Night falls quickly and on the Shinkansen train back to Okayama, I let myself be lulled to sleep by the railway tracks. Neon lights flash by, the night is illuminated by the 7 eleven convenience stores.
I head back to Paris via Osaka, a city I have never been to, but tiredness is catching up on me. I decide to work in my hotel room in the shadows.. A ray of blinding morning light falls on the bed and moves swiftly.
One bento later, I run myself a hot bath and quickly pack my small bag. I'm off and gone. Saionara, this gentleness, how could I have forgotten it...
